Sophia Banks is an award-winning Director with over 100 festival selections and awards featured as one of seven selected female filmmakers for Baz Luhrmann's Top Female Filmmakers to look out for in Vogue Australia.Banks established herself as a director with her 2017 short, Making It On Time for Christian Siriano. The film featured women in couture gowns skateboarding through Downtown Los Angeles' industrial alleyways. Making It On Time received over fifteen awards, including Best Commercial from Oscar Qualifying Hollywood Shorts Film Festival. She went on to shoot global campaigns for many notable brands such as Range Rover, BMW, Ford, Chobani, Pepsi, Target, Barbie, Airbnb, Annie Bing & Nestle as well as top Celebrities such as Kendall + Kylie Jenner, Sofia Vergara and Nikki Reed, shooting hundreds of commercials spots before she moved into long form narrative work.Banks' first narrative Sci-Fi short Unregistered, starring Dylan Penn and Trevor Jackson, premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to screen at over twenty film festivals worldwide, getting millions of views on the trailer alone.
Her following film Proxy, made an impressive film festival run, garnering awards and interest that led to the sale of the project to Anonymous Content for a television series.Signed with CAA as a Director, Banks went on to work with the producers of John Wick directing her first Action/Thriller feature film Black Site, starring Jason Clarke, Michelle Monaghan and Jai Courtney. Her Director's Cut was recently released both in the US and abroad.Banks is in pre-production on her next feature film, The Dain Conspiracy, a Political Crime Thriller Produced by Oscar award winning Producers Bill Mechanic and Rick Nicita (Hacksaw Ridge). She continues to develop original materials across television and film and has a passion for the Sci-fi and action genres.
